Disability Awareness

AARPN’s endorsed training material

Everyone, including people with disability, have healthcare needs. In the pursuit of ensuring such needs are safely and effectively addressed, health professionals – including Certified Practicing Nutritionists – benefit from additional training, coordination and ongoing professional development.

According to 2018 Survey of Disability, Ageing and Carers (SDAC): “ A person has disability if they have at least 1 of a list of limitations, restrictions or impairments, which has lasted, or is likely to last, for at least 6 months and restricts everyday activities.” People with disability may also rely on informal care, such as that provided by family and friends, to meet or supplement their health-care needs.

As an allied health professional – with existing core training in counselling, interpersonal communication, and extensive clinical examination and case-taking skills – AARPN members seeking to engage with the NDIS are required to undertake a mandatory CPD module in disability awareness, and are strongly encouraged to undertake the additional AARPN endorsed Disability Awareness training material
